112th Street proudly participated in Inclusive Schools Week December 7 - 11th. Each class viewed and discussed school made video regarding inclusion. Each student created an "unwrapping my gifts" page to highlight what is special about them and what they contribute to the 112th Street family. Each teacher completed a "many hands, one community" page to highlight what they do to promote inclusion at 112th Street.

"Inclusive Schools Week is an annual event organized by the Inclusive Schools Network that celebrates the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, and other factors. The week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students, and parents to discuss what more can be done in order to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children."

Camp Ubuntu

The 4th/5th graders, along with a few of us who were privileged to chaperone, had a unique and meaningful experience up at Camp Ubuntu this April. We were able to build unique bonds and most of us had to overcome fears with the support from students and teachers. There were many smiles, tears, and much dancing! It was a pleasure getting to participate and watch ALL students show pure joy to participate in numerous earthy challenges and experiences and hear them speak so maturely about what Ubuntu meant to them. Ubuntu literally means I am, because we are. However, to hear the students tell it, it means so much more. I look forward to getting to attend the camp for years to come.

Thank you to the Harold Robinson Foundation for funding this wonderful experience for our students, staff and parents!
